1. Automated Quality Control in Pipeline Manufacturing
After internal coating of tubes and pipelines for water, oil or gas, these elements classically are subject to ultrasonic inspection with respect to flaws in the coating layer.
Drawback of this procedure is the fact that the inspection is not possible before completion of the coating process. In contrast to this method, Q4 und Q5 laser scanners are able to discover irregularities inline, i.e. already in the course of the process, and to launch correction without delay. Advantage: Inefficient time-consuming rework is no more required.
After casting, steel slabs and aluminum ingots must be milled to the desired dimension. Until now, the usual method for measurement consisted in a manual tactile procedure. It is important to know that neither peak nor lowest point of the corresponding surface can be accurately determined this way. This causes unnecessary loss of material, because the milling machine cannot be properly adapted to the current situation.
Advantage: Q5 laser scanners are able to record precisely the surface topography. On the basis of these data, the machine cycle during milling can be optimized, thus minimizing production of scrap.
Due to extreme heat supply, production of weld seams is often accompanied by warping. This warping generates a change of the ideal welding position, lowering the quality of the weld itself and of the connection as a whole. A laser scanner integrated into the process is able to correct the path in time and also detect the presence of slag.
Advantage: The correct welding path can be maintained, in spite of possible thermal distortion.
